Information about Bocas del Toro, Panamá

The archipelago of Bocas del Toro on the isolated northwestern coast of Panama holds an undiscovered paradise that has been recently attracting many international tourist seeking for unspoiled coral reefs, deep-sea fishing, long sandy deserted beaches and eco-tourism adventures.
Isla Colón, Bocas del Toro principal island, named after Cristobal Colón, who first landed on these territories on his 4th and last voyage to the Americas on 1502, awaits a pleasant and calmed atmosphere for tourists.

With more than 15 small and medium size hotels, Isla Colón becomes the starting point for all expeditions. Diving, snorkeling, fishing and eco tour operators are also established on this main island. Tours are usually operated in small powered crafts that can hold up to 10 or 12 people. The main idea is to go visit other islands, inlets and keys in order to find that perfect diving and snorkeling spot or the deserted beach of your choice.

A typical boat tour will depart early in the morning with a trip to the nearby Dolphin Bay where you will have a chance to spot on dolphins as they tease in their natural habitat. You will then set out sailing to the diving or snorkeling destination of your choice.

Afterwards, the tour guide will take you around some other islands for sightseeing before stopping at the famous “Coral Reef”, a restaurant in top of corals where you will have a chance to order from a variety of fresh seafood.

Next stop could be the Red Frog Beach, a long and isolated beach on Isla Bastimentos Marine National Park, a beach at any other secluded key, a trip to Isla Pájaros (Birds Island) where you will spot a wide variety of birds, or yet another diving or snorkeling adventure.

Bocas del Toro Nightlife

At night, and back in Isla Colón, get ready for some of the best cuisine that you will find in Panama. After falling in love with this place, many expatriated tourists have stayed in Bocas del Toro to open up international class restaurants. We can see the influences of Argentine, Italian, Mediterranean and French cuisine with a little flavor of the Caribbean. The specialty is seafood of course, but you will also find other options readily available. Since the abundance of seafood is evident, you will not be surprised at finding lobster and crab platters under $10 US Dollars.

Not only a culinary heaven, but at nightfall, you will also find friendly bars and cafés along the seaside or on Isla Colón’s main street, were all the action takes place.

Bocas del Toro is a true Caribean experience. If you end up falling in love with this place, there are some projects destined at Tourist that would like to start calling this place home. We can also let you know in advance about these retreat projects so that you can have the opportunity to go visit them.

The most practical way to get to Bocas would be through a direct flight from Panama’s City local airport. Round trip reservations are included in our packages.
